TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)_ The Topeka Police Department is investigating several unrelated traffic accidents along eastbound Interstate 70 Monday afternoon. While investigating one of the incidents, a Topeka Police officer was injured when another vehicle struck the officer.
Police say the officer was collecting information for his report when a passing car went out of control into the vehicle involved in the initial accident. The initial vehicle then slid into the officer.
The exit from from eastbound I-70 onto northbound US-75 at Westgate bridge was closed while authorities investigated the accident. It was reopened by 3 pm.
In another incident, a 20 year-old Kansas City woman lost control of her vehicle near the Fairlawn Rd. interchange, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. Emily Bond lost control on an icy patch, hit the median and overturned, sliding on its roof before eventually coming to a stop.
Authorities say Bond was not seriously hurt and her two passengers, a 26 year-old and an 8 month-old, weren't hurt.
Eastbound I-70 was reduced to one lane while authorities investigated and cleared away the wreckage.
