TOPEKA, Kansas - State Senator Laura Kelly (D- Topeka) reported Tuesday she raised $167,137.00 in three months for her just ended 2nd District congressional campaign.
“I am very proud of having raised more than $160,000.00 in three months at a time when our economy is struggling. The success of this fundraising effort reaffirms that there was overwhelming support for my campaign and that Kansans in the 2nd District are looking for a new voice in Congress. I want to take this opportunity to once again thank all my donors for their generous contributions,” said Kelly.
“In reaching my financial goal, I am particularly proud of the fact that 94% of my donors are fellow Kansans and more than 50% of my contributions are for $100 or less. This is a true indication of the support for change in the 2nd District.”
Senator Kelly, in filing her FEC 2009 Fourth Quarter Report today, reported a total of $167,137 raised from 400 donors.
Senator Kelly has chosen to return contributions to her donors, and refund checks were sent out last week.
“With this kind of support, it was a very difficult decision to end my campaign last December, but with the state facing severe financial troubles, I felt I had to re-commit myself to working full time for those who elected me to the Senate. I have no regrets,” said Kelly.
