Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh struck the gavel to declare the end of the filing period.
More than 500 people are running in the Kansas primaries. Some cut it pretty close; the last candidate came in at 11:57.
"I think they like the drama of it there's something to be said for making the last final charge up the steps and being the last one to file," said Secretary State of Ron Thornburg.
About 55 folks filed on Thursday. Some incumbents, such as US Representative Jerry Moran, do not have opponents.
