Congresswoman Nancy Boyda (D-2nd Dist.) spoke out at a press conference Thursday in Washington, D.C. against a Department of Transportation decision to go ahead with a pilot program which would allow Mexican trucks to travel on American roads.
Sparking before highway safety advocates, representatives of the transportation workers, and senior lawmakers, Ms. Boyda called the cross-border program a clear violation of U.S. law.
She cited two bills passed in recent months by the House of Representatives that created 22 new safety criteria on the cross-border trucking program and said that the DOT's continuance with their plans to launch the program violates the law.
She went on to describe the the window for the public to comment on the program, which ends on June 28th as a "joke".
