(WIBW) - Blowing snow is causing problems around Kansas, especially to the north.

It's so bad in Nemaha County, the Road and Bridge Dept. actually pulled the snow removal trucks off the road. Officials there say the crews couldn't stay ahead of the wind as it blew roads back shut as fast as they could get them open.

Nemaha County Emergency Management asks people to be patient. Their crews will try again in the morning.

Elsewhere, KDOT actually shut down some highways.

In Marshall County, K-99 is closed from Beattie to the Nebraska line. It was shut down at 7:45 am Thursday due to blowing and drifting snow making the road impassable.

The same situation forced KDOT to close K-87 in Marshall County from the village of Vliets to the U.S. 36 junction. It closed at 10:40 am.

A section of K-20 in Doniphan County joined the list by Thursday evening. The section runs from the junction of 20/120 to Highland.

A long stretch of K-148 also was closed from Highway 81 in Republic County to K-9/15, west of Barnes in Washington County. It was reported being back open by Thursday night.

KDOT spokesperson Kim Qualls says roads in other areas may be reduced to one lane because of the conditions.

The list of road conditions is available from KDOT's website at the link below or by calling 511 from any phone in Kansas.

I don't know who else posted but chances are you are my neighbor... This is rediculus!! and like you said especially with an elderly and farming community the chance of needing an ambulance is really pretty good. With farmers going out in -5 degree weather things could get pretty interesting!
