(WIBW) - A stretch of land near the Shawnee/Douglas county line will soon be quarried for limestone.
Shawnee County Commissioners approved a conditional use permit Monday for the property near Southeast Herschell Road and 45th Street.
The land is owned by the Delores Howbert Trust. Mid-State Materials will operate the land as a quarry.
The company already quarries several hundred acres nearby on both sides of the county line. Mid-State Materials plans to begin quarrying the new area sometime in the next ten years. They expect work would continue through 2045.
