Topeka, KAN. (WIBW)--One historic sunflower state tour will be shutting its dome doors for a while and it’s causing quite a rush.
The capitol can provide visitors with a full day of learning, tying the sunflower state's past to the present. And present business is booming for dome tours.
"We have a great state capitol...and we wanted to take advantage of it and go to the top before it shuts down,” Nin George said.
George and his family traveled from Augusta, KS Wednesday to go on the dome tour.
"It teaches you so much and how our state was a free state,” 10-year-old Avin George said.
But these findings of freedom won't be offered come Saturday. The capitol will close its dome tours for more than 2 years for renovations and visitors will be shut-off from one of Topeka’s most breathtaking views.
"Phones have been ringing off the hook since Monday when people learned it was closing,” tour coordinator Andrea Burton said.
And business is ringing in at nearly three times the average for this week.
The last dome tour is set for 4:30 on Saturday but tours of the state's Supreme Court and Senate and House chambers will still be offered.
