It’s certainly caused a major impact on northeast Kansas drivers. We’re told that crews and authorities responded to 288 stalled vehicles and more than 50 accidents since Thursday.
Officials urge residents not to abandon stranded cars in roadways. If left, they will be towed at the owner's expense.
Officials still warn that everyone should stay inside unless it's an emergency.

Budget cuts = less trucks, less scraping, less salt and sand, and less workers working!! They are doing what they can!!

Staying home isn't always an option, not if your work is critical, such as a doctor or nurse, police, sheriff, etc. Or lord forbid if you have medical issues. And I'm sure some streets are wondefully clear, including driveways - it's a phenomenon held purely to the west side of town. I live next to two snow routes, I saw 1 plow fri am, heard another last night. That's it. and the ones that did come through left impassable snow ridges at the end of every single street that have to be shoveled out by hand. Piles of slush that will freeze solid tonight. I know it's a lose/lose, but I guarantee you that they'll call it a 'job well done' long before most residental streets are clear. Live in the 'right' neighborhoods, and all is well, live in the 'wrong' one and you might as well not exist.

Staying at home isn't necessarily seen as an option for a lot of people around the holidays, which made the problem a lot larger than it would have been any other time. I personally stocked up on food before the storm hit and knew that my plans might have to change, but I think many underestimated the severity of what was coming and didn't make any preparations. It is hard being away from family, but I think that safety should always be the first concern.
