Murder Charges After Weekend Shooting

TOPEKA, Kansas – Joshua Kyle Martin, 21, Topeka, Kan., was charged Wednesday, December 16th by the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office with one count of murder in the second degree, a level-1 person felony in connection with a shooting that occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday, December 13th.

Jeffrey Copeland, 34, was killed at the home at 3132 SE Irving, Topeka.

Martin turned himself over the custody of the Topeka Police Department later that same day.

The Topeka Police Department investigated the incident. Shawnee County Deputy District Attorney Jacqie Spradling is the prosecuting attorney.
