Emmett (WIBW) - The Emmett community will wait another month to find out if its grade school will survive budget cuts.
The USD 321 Kaw Valley school board decided Monday night to delay a resolution on closing the school until its January 11th meeting.
Board members say they want to be sure they've fully studied the issue.
Rick Reese, who proposed tabling the matter, says many questions were raised at a public hearing on the proposed closure Dec. 6th. He wants to make sure those questions are fully answered.
David Steele, head teacher at Emmett, says he is glad the board is weighing the decision carefully and that school supporters have another month to weigh in on the issue.
If the school is closed, its students would attend Saint Marys next year.

As Kansans we should be able to keep our money and pay for our schools. Kansans continue to pay for other states failing school systems through the department of education. The parents that care are the ones that show up to express their concerns about closings, then there are parents who would rather have a bass boat or big screen television than provide for the education of their children. We spend as much on education as we do on national defense. There is no excuse for the closing of any school, teacher layoff, or the poor performance of students.
