TOPEKA, Kansas - As a severe winter storm system moved out of Kansas, the State Emergency Operations Center reduced its activation level to Level 1 - Watch at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Dec. 10. The SEOC had been at a Level 2 - Partial Activation since approximately 4 p.m. on Dec. 9.
"The storm has passed through, but there is still cause to be alert," said Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, the adjutant general and director of the Division of Kansas Emergency Management. "The weather forecast is calling for bitterly cold temperatures and strong winds that will increase the wind chill factor. Stay indoors if you can. Anyone who must go out should dress warmly and use caution on the roads, which are still snow-packed and icy in many areas."
Snow levels reported to the SEOC ranged from two inches in Douglas County near Lecompton to 14 inches with three to five foot drifts in Marshall County.
KDEM personnel will continue to monitor weather conditions and contact county emergency managers regarding any overnight damage.
