The combined war funding and domestic spending bill signed Friday by President Bush contains disaster assistance for Kansas wheat growers.
The legislation provided for crop production loss assistance for crop losses that are more than 35 percent in either 2005, 2006, or part of 2007.
The assistance is much needed after the rough past few years endured by the state's wheat producers.
Drought conditions, along with freezes, flooding have caused losses for Kansas farmers; compounded with the rising cost of fuels and fertilizer, the aid comes none too soon.
Kansas wheat leaders played a key role in getting the issue onto the radar of politcians and securing the assistance.
