A Topeka man accused of releasing an exotic animal at Lake Shawnee is being charged. The Topeka Capitol Journal reports 26-year old Michael Hutson faces a misdemeanor of violating a state law banning the release of exotic animals into the wild. Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks officials say Hutson released a three-foot American alligator into Lake Shawnee. It was captured March 24th.
Authorities believe Hutson released the alligator when it had gotten too big for him to properly care for it.
