Kansas Supreme Court Appoints Attorney For Jailed David Price
The Kansas Supreme Court appointed standby counsel for David Price, who's been jailed since August for indirect contempt.

Topeka (WIBW) - A man jailed for nearly four months in a dispute over whether he practiced law has an attorney if he wants one.

The Kansas Supreme Court appointed Richard Lake of Holton Friday to serve as standby counsel for David Price.

Price was jailed in August for violating an order to stop practicing law without a license. The Court says he'll be released when he signs a document promising not to do so again.

Price, however, is refusing to sign. He says he's only acted as an advocate, not an attorney.

In appointing Lake, the Court said it appears Price doesn't understand the law governing his case.

I was charged with UPL also in 2006 after a one sided trial prosecution side only, after the state of Florida created a set of jury instructions just for my case, after the jury never was presented the "law" I was accused of violating I was found guilty. The law specifically states in Florida Statutes 454.23 "if you hold yourself out to be an attorney and charge your practing law". I was doing neither. I however discovered that the state was holding inmates in the county jail for over 3 years forcing them to take plea deals under threat behind closed doors in the judges chambers via audio visual. After reporting it to all authorites I could I mailed to the55 inmates a "Motion to Dismiss" that was a document the accused could sign and demand their speedy trial rights, 33 inmates did so. It interrupted the courts commerce and they had to stop it. I was arrested and told I was not allowed to talk to any inmats or their family members about anything going on at the jail or courthouse.
