Salina (WIBW/Salina Journal) - He stopped to help an accident victim, now a Topeka man is recovering at a Wichita hospital from a fall.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says 21-year old Dustin Shughart went over a guardrail on I-70 in Salina.

He'd stopped at the scene of an accident just after 10 p.m. Saturday and was checking to make sure the driver was okay when he fell.

Troopers say it's not clear why Shughart fell, but witnesses told the Salina Journal he may have jumped out of the way of a passing car.

He's in serious condition.
