Megan Whearty knows a thing or two about struggles, whether it's fighting her disease or raising money, she always perseveres.
Megan was born with cystic fibrosis but she never let it get her down.
"I just woke up one day and realized I can do this, this disease doesn't own me, I’m ready I can do whatever I have to do,” Megan said.
In addition to taking 40 pills a day and being in and out of the hospital, Megan travels the state spreading awareness for her disease. And that led to a senior year goal, bringing a motivational speaker to her school. But she needed to raise $2,000 before bringing John O’Leary to inspire her peers.
Megan raised the funds through a 6-month letter writing campaign and hundreds heard his story Friday.
"Come out to Randolph, Kansas and meet a real hero who suffered a lot but never shows that pain,” O’Leary said.
O’Leary’s organization donated $1,000 to help fight cystic fibrosis.
