TOPEKA -- Attorney General Steve Six is partnering with Cox Communications and the Kansas Internet Crimes Against Children taskforce this week to educate and inform parents, guardians and children about the importance of safety.
This Saturday, November 14th, Cox Cable will host its 2nd Safety Day at local Cox Stores. Topeka's store at 931 SW Henderson will be participating that day, from 9:00 until 1:00. During the event, parents, guardians and children will have the opportunity to meet with local fire fighters and police officers and learn the importance of keeping children safe online, at home and on the go. Children will be able to take home fingerprint and DNA kits to help parents gather important identifying information about their child before a crisis occurs.
“When a child is abducted or goes missing, the first few hours are critical. Many times, parents do not have important identifying information about their child available to give law enforcement in a crisis,” Six said. “We hope this program helps parents gather vital information to help law enforcement bring their child home safely.”
“Our partnership with Attorney General Steve Six and the Kansas Internet Crimes Against Children taskforce is a great opportunity for the community," said Kimberly Edmunds, senior vice president and general manager of Cox Kansas/Arkansas. “We hope these events at our Cox Stores and the identification kits will provide parents and guardians the resources to keep their children safe.”
The ID kits will be available free to parents at local Cox Stores. Parents will be assisted in collecting DNA samples, fingerprints and photographs for the ID card at select Cox Stores.
