No matter where veterans spent their holiday, the message was the same.
"Thank you veterans,” Mission Valley Elementary students shouted.
These students thought skipping school was the least they could do to honor the service men and women who gave it all. And their teachers had no problem with missing math and science for a
hands-on civics lesson at a parade on Eskridge's Main Street.
Here in the capitol city, the celebrations and sentiment provided much of the same feelings.
Kansas Army National Guard chief of staff Col. John Andrew spoke words of solemn sacrifice and gave his thanks at the Phillips Billard post V.F.W.
"Express gratitude to some of the greatest people we have, who ask for very little yet give so much,” Col. Andrew.
And at the Great Overland Station in north Topeka, veterans of all ages from all conflicts came to get their well-deserved recognition.
