Near Lecompton (WIBW) - An accident on K-10 at the Lecompton Kansas Turnpike interchange left two people seriously injured.
It happened just after 5:30 pm Friday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says a northbound 2006 Mazda driven by 21-year old Karissa Pinegar was attempting to get onto the turnpike and turned in front of an oncoming motorcycle.
The driver of the motorcycle was taken to Stormont-Vail, then transferred to KU Medical Center. His identity wasn't available.
A passenger on the motorcycle, 21-year old Jason Kenney, was taken right to KU Med.
Both had injuries considered serious. Neither was wearing a helmet.
Pinegar was treated for minor injuries at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Traffic was directed around the area for more than three hours Friday night.

Good point rae. This is not a matter of helmet or no helmet. Its one of inattentive driver on the chick driving the car. Perhaps if she would have been paying attention to her driving then the accident never would have happened. Now there is one hurt badly and one that passed away from the injuries she caused. I hope that she likes orange. Because in my opinion that is vehicular manslaughter. Perhaps a little jail time and living with killing someone she will pay more attention next time she gets behind the wheel! Or if not just stays Off the road!!
It's not about the helmet vs. the seat belt its about the driver of the car that DID NOT yield for the oncoming motorcyclist!! Yes, a helmet may of helped don't get me wrong but that is not the problem in this case. Joe has a very valid point!! Watch out for motorcyclist!!
HEY Kit... Didn’t some of your wonderful RCPD get busted for not wearing their seatbelts?? Better keep them in Aggieville babysitting the college kids. So not wearing a helmet is negligence by whose law yours? And you would be?? It’s your opinion just like JC voiced his. So back off. You must be the big man at home behind your keyboard. Don’t hurt yourself patting yourself on the back!! Tami... the fact would be like Joe said. Not just half facts. Did the people in the accident have head injuries?? That would make the point more relevant. Do you also notice when they were wearing helmets it isn’t mentioned? Several articles have been that way…
