Topeka, KAN. (WIBW)--The tragedy at Ft. Hood was felt by military members across the world.
Officials say that military bases are one of the safest places in the world, even despite yesterday's massacre.
“Shock was the first thing that came to my mind, a soldier shooting other soldiers, totally would knock you over,” Kansas Army National Guard chaplain John Potter said.
Sentiment felt by many service members after an attack by one of their own.
“Makes you take a moment to make sure we're doing everything we can on this installation and that we're protecting ourselves,” Major Chris Hill of the Kansas Air National Guard said.
Military officials at Forbes Field National Guard Base determined the events at Ft. Hood were isolated incidents and did not require an increase in base security.
"Should something like that happen, God forbid…also what we're doing to prepare our members for an event like that,” Major Hill said.
Ft. Riley officials released a statement claiming the base has increased its security measures through additional random checks at entry points.
