Topeka (WIBW) - Good weather has farmers rushing to the field, then standing still at the elevators.

Grain elevators have been busy the past couple weeks in Kansas as warm weather and sunny skies allow farmers to get back into the corn and soybean fields to harvest.

At Topeka's Cargill elevator Friday, a steady stream of trucks pulled through with their loads. Some farmers report waiting as long as two hours over the past week.

Kansas Agricultural Statistics says cooler temps and rain slowed the harvest. The latest report shows only about half the corn and soybeans are in, which is about 70-percent behind this point last year.

Ken Tyson of the Kansas Department of Agriculture says drier weather has everyone out in the fields at once. Adding to the busy time at the elevators is the good news that most people are seeing high yields.
