Fort Riley, Kan. (WIBW) – The Fort Hood, Texas shootings prompted Fort Riley to step up its security measures.
Maj. Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, commanding general, 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley, said the safety and security of Fort Riley soldiers, families and civilian workers is a primary concern.
He said Fort Riley remains an open post, but the post is adjusting security measures in order to maintain force protection vigilance.
Random checks will be conducted at entry points to the installation. These checks are consistent with Fort Riley’s current posture, which allows for a variety of changes in procedures.
Post officials will continue to assess threats and update security posture as events dictate.
In a statement, Fort Riley officials said they extended "our thoughts and prayers to our friends and teammates at Fort Hood, Texas," in light of the tragedy.
