Senate Approves "Alexa's Law" Save Email Print

Topeka, Kan. (AP)_ The Kansas Senate approved a bill that allows prosecutors to charge someone with murder or other crimes for killing or injuring a fetus.

The bill, called "Alexa's Law," was named for the fetus of a Wichita teenager who was murdered.

The law says that the legal definition of a "person" includes an unborn child" at any stage in the womb for a list of crimes that includes murder, manslaughter, vehicular homicide and battery.

Abortion-rights supporters suspect the measure is a move toward outlawing abortion, even though a provision in the bill exempts abortions.

The bill now goes before the House, which will consider it when they return from their spring break on April 25th.
