(Associated Press) A leader of the effort to adopt a concealed-handguns law says lawmakers won't attempt to override an expected veto by Governor Kathleen Sebelius.
A bill permitting Kansas adults to carry concealed guns cleared the Legislature earlier this month.
The Democratic governor has until Friday to act on the bill.
Sebelius has made it clear she would probably veto the measure.
The governor has said she believes only retired law enforcement officers should be allowed to carry concealed guns.
Democratic House member Candy Ruff was a leading supporter of the legislation, which received too few House votes to override the likely veto.
The Leavenworth lawmaker says proponents hope the House will gain a pro-gun majority in this fall's election and they'll try again next year on the bill.
