Topeka (WIBW) - Among the stops Tara Simhiser and Roy Hernandez made before turning up in Hiawatha Thursday was a Topeka liquor store.
13 News obtained the surveillance video from the store at 517 SE 37th Street. In it, Simhiser's hair appears much darker than the photos released with the Amber Alert. She walks alongside Hernandez as they enter the store, approach the counter and he begins speaking to the worker.
The store worker says the pair came into the store around 1:30 pm Tuesday and asked to borrow a phone. He asked if it would be a long-distance call. When they said yes, the worker handed Simhiser his cell phone.
The video shows Simhiser dialing the phone, then turning her back and walking a few steps away to place the call.
It was learned Simhiser had called her mother, didn't get an answer and left a message.
The store worker said he didn't think anything was unusual until after the pair left, and Simhiser's mother called back his number, asking what he'd done with her daughter and why he was with her.
The worker says he explained who he was and that the pair had already left. However, he still had the surveillance video to share with authorities.

This guy came up to my car dealership about a month ago saying he was a top recruit in the country for wrestling. He said that he was transferring up to Kansas to wrestle before he went to University of Nebraska to wrestle on a full ride. He is a crazy S.O.B. He definetly has a problem with realty.
I'd say this young lady made the decision to go on her own. I wonder if she ever thought what her parents were going through and the fear they must have felt wondering if she was dead or alive? If she went on her own, I hope she gets charged as a runaway and will face charges herself.
