The suspect was shot after a brief chase on foot near the scene around 5:30 p.m.. He was taken to Wesley Medical Center where he died at 6:10 this evening. The suspect's name has not yet been released.

Gov. Mark Parkinson released a statement on Etheridge's death late Monday saying, “I am deeply saddened by the death of Sedgwick County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Etheridge. He died in the line of duty, serving and protecting his community, making the ultimate sacrifice.
“This is a shocking and tragic reminder of the risk that law enforcement officers face every day in serving our state – we can never thank them enough for all that they do, it truly is a debt we cannot repay.
