Senator Pat Roberts is urging Democratic leaders to restore three billion dollars in budget cuts that could threaten key projects at Kansas military bases.
The House voted last week to remove the money from a spending measure that funds the government for the rest of the fiscal year.
The money was meant to put the 2005 base closing law in place. It included more than $350 million in construction projects for Fort Riley to deal with the influx of soldiers returning from Iraq.
The projects at risk include barracks, headquarters and hangar complexes for a combat aviation brigade; airfield improvements; and headquarters for the First Infantry Division returning to Kansas.
The Kansas Governor's Military Council passed a resolution supporting Roberts' efforts.
Governor Sebelius formed the council in 2004 to represent the state during the base realignment process.
