TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Several members of the Kansas Senate Judiciary Committee have strong reservations about banning smoking in most public buildings statewide.
The committee plans to vote tomorrow on a bill that has the backing of public health advocates and groups.
Republican Julia Lynn of Olathe and Democrat Greta Goodwin of Winfield say they've received negative feedback on the bill from their constituents.
Lynn said her constituents feel pushed around by the government. Goodwin, whose district includes a veterans' home, said many veterans have told her they oppose the ban.
And Republican Senator Terry Bruce of Hutchinson worries the law could pre-empt local bans that are tailored to their communities' needs.
