It happened just after 9:35 am. The Kansas Highway Patrol says 16-year old Kerensa Ward of Vassar was driving west on K-268, two miles north of Lyndon. KHP says she stopped at the stop sign at Highway 75, then pulled out in front of a northbound pickup.

Ward died at the scene. Her 15-year old passenger, along with the truck's driver - 51-year old William Meade of Melvern - and his 14-year old passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Happy 18th Birthday Kerensa. We all love and miss you so much. I hope you're having fun wherever you're at. One day we'll all be together again. I love you girly. <3

Dave: there is a lot wrong with that intersection, it isn't a four way stop, so stop signs don't really do much when you are driving into oncoming traffic. Kerensa was my best friend. Anybody, of any age could have gotten in that car accident, it's not just young people. Was there negligence involved? Yes. But there are things wrong with that intersection. I drive it all the time, many times its hard for me to see if someone is coming or not. Plus people on 75 don't slow down so they are going 65-70 MPH, the speed limit should be lowered, there is no reason why it can't be. It has been one year now, and I still miss her everyday. She was an amazing person, and I love her very much.
