Topeka (WIBW) - Topeka Mayor Bill Bunten kicked off the 20th year of Project Re-Directory with his customary toss of an old phone book behind his back into a trash can.
Bunten was joined by other city officials as well as staff from the Topeka Zoo and kids attending a zoo camp.
Keep America Beautiful-Topeka/Shawnee County organized the event that was staged next to the black bear exhibit. The group labeled the event as "How can you bear not to recycle?"
Organizers say the recycled books will be made into products such as bathroom tissue, paper towels, pastry containers and Pringles cans.
