Mayetta, KS -- The Kansas Department of Transportation says beacons are to be installed by this fall at the site of a fatal accident west of Mayetta. KDOT says plans have been in the works for the beacons since June.
Three people died after a semi-truck and car collided in Jackson Co., according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 75 and County Rd. 162 around 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Kansas Highway Patrol says the three people who died were all in the car. They have been identified as the 19-year-old driver Elizabeth Belair of Delia, 44-year-old Chris Hernandez of St. Marys, and 17-year-old Erick Goslin of Topeka. One passenger from the car, 42-year-old Sharon Belair of Topeka, was life-flighted to a hospital in critical condition. She has since been upgraded to fair condition. The driver of the semi-truck walked away from the accident.
Kansas Highway Patrol also says witnesses report the car ran a stop sign. They say that's when two semi-trucks tried to avoid hitting the car.
