Topeka Man Begins Jail Term In Lawyering Spat

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ A Topeka man accused of practicing law
without a license has begun serving his jail sentence.

David Martin Price's wife said Thursday that he is a ``political prisoner.''

The Kansas Supreme Court had ordered an indefinite jail term for Price. But on Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Sam Crow said Price must serve the first five days of his sentence while Crow considers
his case.

The Kansas attorney general's office has been trying for more than three years to prevent Price from providing advice to others on legal matters.

In December 2007, the Supreme Court ordered Price not to counsel others but the attorney general's office contends Price violated the decree. The Supreme Court agreed and found Price in contempt.
