Senator Sam Brownback visited Iraq Tuesday to meet with top Iraqi and U.S. officials as he continues an overseas excursion to try and gain a first-hand account of the War on Terror.
While there, he met with Prime Minister al-Maliki to discuss U.S. policy in Iraq as well as Deputy President Tariq al-Hashemi, Deputy President Adil Abd al-Mahdi, the Iraqi Minister of Defense, and the National Security Advisor.
Sen. Brownback also discussed military options and possible resolutions to the sectarian violence with top U.S. officials.
"The United States cannot sustain a war effort without broad public support, and we cannot count on such support unless the situation in Iraq improves and American casualties decrease," Sen. Brownback said.
Sen. Brownback trip includes visits to Ethiopia, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
