Topeka (WIBW) - Gov. Mark Parkinson signed a disaster declaration Friday for six counties hit hard by storms this week.
Included are Allen, Anderson, Bourbon, Franklin, Linn and Sedgwick counties.
Fast moving storms blew through those areas Wednesday. In Franklin County, winds were estimated between 80- and 100-miles per hour.
Kansas Adjutant General Tod Bunting says the declaration will allow power crews to work longer hours, so power can be restored more quickly.
The Lyon-Coffey Electric Cooperative said Friday that there is a light at the end of the tunnel for its customers in Garnett, Richmond and Welda who've been without power since Wednesday.
Coop officials said most line repairs were complete. They had nearly 100 poles down in all, with nearly 800 of their customers out of power.
Coop officials said KCP&L hoped to have the substation serving them back on-line Friday night, which should get the power back on for most of them.
