Junction City, KS (WIBW) - Federal charges against a developer with plans in Junction City reveals a scandal inside the city commission. The turmoil came to head today when Commissioner Scott Johnson called for the resignation of the mayor and two commissioners.
Back in 2004 there was word from Fort Riley of a large troop build up and a need for housing. Some people, including three of the Commissioners in question, believed it would double the size of the city. They made deals with developers for land. One developer was David Freeman. Freeman is from Lawrence and is now facing federal charges of conspiracy. The charges allege that Freeman paid one of the Commissioners nicknamed Firefighter to make sure the deals were made.
Johnson is asking that Mayor Terry Heldstab, Vice Mayor Mike Rhodes, and Commissioner Ken Talley step down. They say they have no intention of resigning. For more about this story click on the video link at the top of your screen.

The developers came and made money, the realtors split lots and made money, the city turned its head at poor building quality and made money, the builders took money and run, and the commissioners, well they wanted thier piece of the action as well. Now, the buyers must pay the price for all that greed. Between 2005 and 2008 home prices went through the roof because of all the greed, not because of the military. And now, our city commission is made up of two of the biggest realtors and a builder, hmmm wonder how that happened. There is no doubt that the realtors are tied to the commission and the corruption that took place. The FBI should come in here and uncover a few rocks, they would find a lot.
