Mayetta, KS -- The city of Mayetta is debating whether or not to have a storm shelter.
At last week's city council meeting, officials discussed whether or not to allow the Royal Valley Middle School to be the city's storm shelter. On Tuesday, Mayor Jonathan Wimer says the fire department and the school district don't want to take responsibility for opening up the building if severe weather hits.
The mayor says the issue will be discussed at future city council meetings. Mayor Wimer hopes a citizen will volunteer to open up the school in all severe weather instances.
