Victims Flee Drive-By Shooting, Bystander Hit

TOPEKA, Kan. - On May 4, 2009 at 12:20 p.m. Topeka Police were dispatched to the 3200 blk of Twilight Ct. in reference to gunshots in the area with a possible victim at the manager's office of the Oakbrook Apartment complex.

Officers located a victim, Saxby Mickler, 48, in the manager's office at the apartments.

Police said Mickler is a maintenance worker at the complex. He was working when two black males drove by and fired shots at two unknown subjects who were walking in the area. Police say the two intended targets ran from the area, according to witnesses.

Mickler was hit by one of the stray rounds in the left forearm. He was taken to Stormont Vail by AMR with non life-threatening injuries.

The two suspects were last seen westbound on Twilight in a maroon 4 door sedan.

Several buildings within the complex sustained damage to walls and windows. Some of the apartments that were hit were occupied at the time. No one else was injured in the shooting.
