TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ A hearing is being held in Topeka Tuesday night for the public to review the basic design of a sign to be posted at businesses that want to bar handguns from the premises.
As of January 1, Kansans with a permit will be able to visit just about any business in the state -- unless a sign prohibiting the practice is posted.
The signs must be yellow and black and measure at least 8.5-by-11 inches, showing a handgun with a circle and diagonal line going through it.
Republican State Senator Phil Journey - who wrote the concealed-carry bill - says most businesses in the 46 other states that have such laws haven't posted such signs. He says those supporting gun rights would avoid such places, even if they werent carrying firearms.
