Detectives also have their hands full with three other incidents, all happening within the past two days. "All of our detectives carry a very heavy case load, but they will be investigating," says Maj. John Sidwell of the Topeka Police Department. Within less than 24 hours, four incidents have Topeka Police detectives searching for clues and suspects. At around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, 22-year old Talisha Porter told police she was riding in a car when someone who knew the driver fired a shot at the vehicle. The driver hit a parked car, a sign and a telephone pole. That driver and the gunman left the scene. Porter suffered minor injuries.

Later that evening, 40-year old Uriel Bermudes was robbed at gun point at 401 SE Lake where employees say he worked. The suspect stole money and groceries. Police describe him as a black male, 18-21 years old, 6' and skinny, wearing a blue sweater with red stripes on the shoulder. Then, around 12:30 a.m. Monday, police say Danielle Conley and Joseph Frye were walking up to their house at1527 Mulvane when two men ran out of an alley yelling, then fired shots. Conley was hit in the leg. After going to Stormont Vail Hospital, she was life-flighted to KU Medical Center.

Police also responded to a domestic dispute at 1024 SE Highland just after 6:00 a.m. Monday. 45-year-old Patrick O'Marah told police he was in an argument with a woman Monday morning, when she stabbed him in the back. His injuries were minor. Police are still investigating all the incidents. "Weekends are traditionally busy," says Sidwell, "it is unfortunate, but crime does happen within the City of Topeka, we always need to be alert to our surroundings and report suspicious activities." If you have information on any of these crimes, call Crime Stoppers at 234-0007.
