TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Kansas Speedway is back in the casino business.

The partnership of the speedway and Baltimore-based Cordish Co. filed an application Monday with the Kansas Lottery. The speedway was on the verge of being approved to build the Wyandotte County casino when it withdrew in December because of the economy. It said then it planned to reapply.

Speedway President Jeff Boerger said the proposal will be the same as before with $680 million facility. But this time around, the partnership wants to build it in phases.

Wednesday is the deadline for submitting applications for Wyandotte and Sumner counties.

Equity Ventures, of Topeka, says it and an undisclosed partner will submit its application for Sumner County.

Lottery officials said other applications can be submitted until 5 p.m. Wednesday.
