Law enforcement find 11 people packed into a small car, nine of them kids. Authorities say one of the kids was in the trunk.
Nine kids, all unrestrained, all packed into a 1989 Honda Civic. A 12 year old sat in the open trunk, along with a stroller and turtle. A Kansas Department of Corrections employee spotted the car and initiated the investigation.
The kids range in ages from 2 months to 12 years, eight were inside the car, along with two women, the mothers of all but one of the kids. 22-year-old Angelicia Sanchez, and 39-year-old Maria Maldonado were booked into jail on multiple counts of aggravated child endangerment, that's a felony.
According to Shawnee County court records, a Maria Maldonado was charged with six counts of child endangerment in 1999, but the case was dismissed. The same year she was also charged with battery, that was also dismissed.
The kids are now in other hands, hauled off and placed in SRS custody, as for the child that didn't belong to the mothers, they were babysitting.
