TOPEKA, Kan. - Jessica Seidel, 12, has Hemphagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis, Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis, and is TPN dependent. She started chemotherapy for the HLH on November 6, 2008 and is scheduled to undergo a Bone Marrow Transplant April 6.

Jessica had spent time at her home in Topeka with her mom, Leslie, her dad, Dave, and her little brother, Jordan. She planned to be home until March 25th, when she would return to the hospital to start preparing for the transplant.

But Thursday evening Jessica reached a temperature of 105.2 and had to be taken to the emergency room. Friday evening she was transported to Children's Mercy in Kansas City. Jessica's parents say doctors are telling them it appears the HLH has returned, despite being on active chemo and steroid therapy.

Sunday final lab work indicated Jessica's HLH is back. She will get an extra round of her normal chemo.

Leslie Seidel stays in Kansas City with Jessica while Dave and Jordan stay in Topeka.

Leslie wrote on Sunday evening that doctors plan to go ahead with the original bone marrow transplant date on April 6. The family is expected to meet with doctors on Tuesday to go over details, as Jessica's conditioning will be different due to the recent change in her health.

The Seidels continue to ask for prayers for Jessica and their family.

The community has been supporting the family through donations, blood drives and a bone marrow registration drive.

The Poker Pub of Topeka is hosting a Texas Hold 'Em Fundraiser for Jessica on Saturday, March 28. The tournament is open to the public. Registration starts at 5:15 p.m. at Prairie View Golf Club, 9840 SW 45th, Topeka. The tournament begins at 6:00 p.m.

I want to let you know that I know what your going through. I know it is a rough road. My son died of HLH on June 20, 2008. Went in for a stomach flu and thats when we found out he had HLH. We had never heard of it until then. I have found a lot of survivors....research has come along way in recent years. Due to Cinncinnatti Children's Hospital which is the only research hospital in the United States. Dr. Filipovich is the main doctor there and knows a great deal about it. My sons was familial. Genetic...it comes from me (i'm a carrieer) and my 13 yr old daughter has a 25% chance of developing FHLH as well. email me if you'd like to talk further. Please tell her to hang in there and we are praying for her and your family during this trying time. Liz
