TOPEKA,Kan-- The Soldier Township Fire Department was called Sunday morning to a home fully engulfed by fire in the 3800 block Northeast Meriden Road.
When crews arrived to the home flames could be seen coming from the roof. The Topeka Fire Department was called in to assist crews on the scene.
According to Soldier Township Fire Chief Dave Meek it appeared the fire had started somewhere on the south end of the home. He said strong southern winds pushed the fire through the house quickly, making it hard for crews to stop.
Chief Meek said no injuries were reported. The Red Cross was on scene to provide assistance residents.
Crews were not able to provide a damage estimate. Shawnee County has the home appraised at around $95,000.

My heart goes out to the family. This can be a tough time. And the Red Cross is a great organization that, I'm sure, has helped them immensely.
