Audit, Hearings Planned on Funding Decision by Sebelius Administration

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ An internal audit of a decision on social services funding is being sought by the administration of Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, the president's nominee for health and human services secretary.

The examination is being sought by Social and Rehabilitation Secretary Don Jordan. He's the same official who decided last year to increase payments to a group that has the state Democratic Party's chairman as a director.

Jordan has asked the Kansas Health Policy Authority to hire an ``outside expert'' to review his decision. The authority and Jordan's department split oversight of most Medicaid spending in Kansas.

Meanwhile, Republican legislators said Wednesday that they plan to have hearings and may ask for a legislative audit.

Jordan's decision last fall is worth almost $713,000 a year to Community Living Opportunities. The nonprofit Lenexa group provides
services to the developmentally disabled.
