A new poll shows Governor Kathleen Sebelius with a 20-point lead over her Republican opponent, State Senator Jim Barnett of Emporia.

The poll done by Survey USA for the Wichita Eagle and KWCH TV in Wichita showed 58 percent of Kansas voters asked would vote for Sebelius while 38 percent would vote for Barnett. The margin of error was four percent in the telephone survey early last week.

The governor's strongest support comes from women and people over age 65. In both categories, the poll shows Sebelius ahead by a two-to-one margin over Barnett. The survey found Barnett strongest in Wichita, where he had the support of 47 percent to 48 percent for the governor.

About 35 percent of those who said they were Republican said they planned to vote for Sebelius.

Survey U-S-A said about half of the 1,200 Kansas adults interviewed for the poll said they were registered voters who would likely vote in the upcoming election.
