Friends, family and neighbors stood outside the fire police tape watching as Lawrence firefighters examined the damage. A number of witnesses say they observed the blaze that tore through a home at 1205 New Jersey St.only blocks away from Downtown Lawrence. Firefighters responded just before one A.M. Sunday morning.
Bystanders say it didn't take long before the house was fully engulfed in flames. One person was taken to the hospital, family members say the injured person was Learlean Hooks. Authorities say two people were found dead and neighbors say it was Charles Glover and an infant child. We spoke with friends of the family who did not want to talk on camera and they say three other children also lived in the home they say all four were grandchildren of Glover.
The three still missing are believed to be between the ages 2 and 13. Lawrence Fire Chief, Mark Bradford, said that the children probably died in the blaze. The search, though, is going slowly because the house is still unstable and therefore dangerous for firefighters. The Fire Marshall is also investigating the causse of the fire. And as investigators continued to examine the scene family members stayed close by grieving and waiting to find out what exactly happened to their loved ones.
Family members said they were too upset to talk on camera. We'll let you know when we have more information about this fire when it becomes available.
