The YMCA Character Awards highlight young people in our community who give back. One winner, Andrew Gutierrez, is a true leader, despite having to struggle through personal adversity.

Gutierrez was surprised he was nominated for the YMCA character awards. He should not have been. He has impacted many in the community, including those who nominated him, like his swim coach and a man who volunteered with his father Ralph.

Andrew recently lost his father, and is pushing forward by volunteering and being an inspiration to his high school classmates. And to help even more people, Andrew wants to be a surgeon in the future.

Watch the video for more on Andrew, and how he has inspired others.
