The 13th season of Survivor kicked off tonight on CBS but not without controversy. The name or nature of the game hasn’t changed. Just like previous seasons 20 contestants are competing for a million dollar prize, but this season there's a twist. This season CBS announced Survivor groups would be separated by ethnicity, a decision that has created controversy nationwide. We asked Topekans what they thought of the race of the races.
Whether you've fallen into the Survivor fever or never seen a show, you may have heard about the controversy this new season is creating. This year contestants were split into four groups divided by race; Asian, Hispanic, Anglo-Saxon and African American. And before the show even touched the television screen people were protesting.
Some people told us they think it’s a terrible idea that segregates races. While others we spoke with said the shows new twist is exciting. Our General Manger here at WIBW-Tv says the show will give some attention to important issues.
While the ship has already sailed for the Cook Islands, the opinions on the controversy may stay docked longer than Survivor's season.
Decide for yourself, the show airs on Thursdays at seven on Channel 13.
