(Topeka, KS)--Fire crews from several departments reposnded to a house fire on Thursday that devastated a family's home. No one was inside at the time, but a firefighter was taken to a hopsital for precautionary reasons with smoke inhalation.
Carol and Bobby Williams are the owners. Carol said she was in a state of shock. Her nephew, Topeka Police 2008 Officer of the Year Patrick Salmon spoke for the family, and said there were many great memories there.
He also said the family was close, and would come together to help the homeowners. Carol said she would be staying with family members, and the road ahead would be a long one.
Several cats were inside, and had not been found as of Thursday evening. The house was "totaled," according to a firefighter on the scene, but no damage estimate has been released. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
