POWHATTAN, Kan. - Authorities say a teenager died in an accident that shut down Highway 75 north of Holton for more than 15 hours.
It happened just after 6:15 pm Monday at the intersection of Hwy. 75 and K-20 in Brown County, just south of Sac and Fox Casino.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 16-year old Corey Davis from Netawaka was killed in the crash. Davis was a sophomore at Wetmore High School.
KHP says Davis was driving across Highway 75 in front of a semi headed south. The semi hit Davis' truck. The impact sent his truck rolling into the ditch and tipped the semi truck on its side. The frozen food inside the trailer spilled all over the highway, causing extra cleanup time for workers.
Another semi headed north got caught up in the crash and a third semi pulled over to offer help.
The KHP and Brown County Sheriff's office worked the accident. They kept the highway shut down until about 9:30 am Tuesday. They say clean up took so long because crews had to pick up the overturned semi and clear its cargo of frozen food that spilled across the road.
The driver of overturned semi suffered serious injuries and was taken to Horton Hospital.
